This is part of a series of How-To’s.  Refer to the HOW TO’s Category to your left for others! Click Contact above to let me know if you want info on something not there!

Google Adsense allows you to earn money through your website and blog. When you create an Adsense campaign, you are putting up small ads on your site. When someone clicks on those ads, you will earn revenue. Simple enough.

Take a step back and look at my site.

Look UP Arrow Pointing Up See underneath my Menu Tabs (Blog, Contact, etc.) – there is a list of text links that are always changing – depending on the content of the page. To the far left of those links it says Ads By Google. The code I placed on my site is ‘smart’ and if we are talking about Google Adsense here, then those links probably also have those words.

    But there’s MORE!

Now look Arrow pointing Right . There are two blue columns. The one on the outside, to the furthest right, is hosting another set of Google Ads. These are called Skyscraper Ads. See anything that interests you? Go ahead and click. I will earn a few cents today ;) .

    Ok.. so moving on.

As you can see, there are several types of Adsense campaigns you can choose to set up. You can also set up a search function that will be displayed on your website, as well as a referral program. For our purposes, we will discuss Adsense For Content. When you set up this type of program, Google will search the content you have on your page and display ads that relate to that specific content.

You can choose for your ads to be displayed in a box, known as an ad unit. You can also have them displayed as links, known as a link unit. You can choose the colors, layout size and shape.

Once you have chosen the design and layout of your Adsense campaign, you can create channels. This will allow you to get advanced tracking reports. If you are new to Adsense, you don’t have to worry about setting them up right away.

After you have selected all of your criteria, Adsense will give you a bit of Javascript that you can cut and paste onto your webpage or blog. If you use Blogger, which is owned by Google, they have a very easy integration tool that you can use. You won’t have to cut and paste anything, and you can create your Adsense campaign’s colors and style directly from Blogger.

If you use WordPress, as I do, and as I highly recommend, then you can add the Adsense plugin to allow you to use adsense in the posts like this Arrow Down
